Key Accountabilities
Important Tasks / Activities / Outcomes
- Understand and mitigate safety concerns in the field.
- Demonstrate proper safety awareness and understand and mitigate safety concerns in the field.
- Complete safety documentation including but not limited to job safety analyses, risk assessments, and equipment and workplace inspections.
Surveying and Prospecting
- Management in planning and executing geochemical and (rarely) geophysical surveys and prospecting activities.
- Manage geological core processing, including geotechnical logging, geological logging, sampling, core photography, specific gravity measurements, core cutting, and sample shipping in collaboration with other Geologists, Geotechnicians and Project Managers on-site.
Mapping, Interpretation and Quality Assurance
- Provide strong geological mapping and interpretation, contributing to the overall understanding of project sites.
- Ensure the quality of data captured during programs meets company standards and the ethical standards of applicable regulating bodies.
- Supervise drilling activities, including drill site setup, progress tracking, and ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Oversee and train geology interns and other Geologists and field support staff, ensuring their effective contribution to project objectives.
Geological Modelling & Reporting
- Help facilitate Senior / Specialist / Principal Geologist with geological modelling and Technical Reporting in Leapfrog Geo, Maptek Vulcan, or similar.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
- Minimum 4 years prior experience in mineral exploration or related field.
Designations & Certifications
- Registered as a Geologist-in-Training with ASBOG legislative body.
- Standard First Aid and CPR level C certified.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Able to confidently take on projects in the office and in the field.
- Contribute ideas and participate in larger projects.
- Work independently with general supervision.
- Provide a strong understanding about industry standards.
- Strong understanding on exploratory drilling programs.
- Familiarity and application of the Dahrouge Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Plan and the Professional Practice Management Plan (must be reviewed and signed during orientation).
Working Conditions
Fieldwork
- Exposure to harsh weather, terrain, and potential wildlife hazards, contributing to physical exertion and discomfort.
- Core logging involves lifting up to 60 lbs and maintaining focus under pressure.
Office Work
- Generally controlled, with some pressure during deadlines.
- Minimal hazards compared to the field, though discomfort may arise from prolonged computer work.
Overall
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols in the field.
- Exposure to hazards varies by project, location, and season, requiring adaptability.
- Clear communication essential for addressing safety concerns and supporting the team.
