The GNM Nurse in the Ophthalmology OT is responsible for assisting surgeons during eye surgeries, maintaining sterile OT protocols, preparing patients and instruments, and ensuring smooth functioning of operation theatre activities while delivering safe and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile environment in the ophthalmic OT.
- Assist ophthalmic surgeons during procedures such as cataract, LASIK, corneal, glaucoma, and other eye surgeries.
- Check and prepare surgical instruments, consumables, IOLs, viscoelastics, and OT equipment before surgery.
- Ensure proper sterilization, autoclaving, and infection control practices as per protocols.
- Prepare patients pre-operatively (verification, consent check, eye preparation, positioning).
- Monitor patient vitals during procedures and assist anesthesia team if required.
- Maintain OT records, surgical registers, checklists, and documentation.
- Handle OT inventory and coordinate for timely availability of supplies.
- Follow biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Provide post-operative care instructions and assist in patient shifting and recovery.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and safety protocols.
- Report any OT incidents, equipment malfunction, or complications immediately.
