The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Parks Maintenance Worker within the Parks and Recreation Department. The ideal candidate should have a background in golf course maintenance, commercial turf and grounds, or closely related field to help improve the appearance, playability, safety and maintenance of Oak Hills Golf Course.
Works closely with other full time and seasonal staff to prepare for daily play, leagues, tournaments and other events.
Daily tasks may include: Mowing greens, tees, fairways and rough; raking and edging sand bunkers; changing pin locations; rolling greens; hand watering; blowing leaves; filling water coolers; emptying trash cans and moving tee blocks
Assists with the maintenance, repair and installation of the irrigation system and pump station.
Applies fertilizer and pesticide applications in a safe an accurate manner. Ability to identify common turf insects and diseases, understand labels and rate calculations.
Assists in turf maintenance practices to include: aerating, verticutting, top-dressing, seeding, checking and maintaining adequate moisture levels in greens.
Maintains trees and landscaping on city property to include: planting, trimming, mulching and debris removal.
Assists with the repair and construction of any drainage and storm water management needs.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment and notifies supervisor of equipment in need of repair.
Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds; stand for extended periods;
Mental: Ability to follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment, supplies and vehicles necessary for daily work tasks. Must be a positive Parks and Recreation representative while working closely with golfers, co-workers and the general public.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one-year experience directly involved with golf course maintenance, athletic field maintenance, commercial turf and grounds maintenance, or closely related field.
Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain various turf, construction and landscape equipment and vehicles.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Missouri Class A CDL with air brake and tank endorsement.
Preferred Missouri Certified Pesticide Applicator License.
Typical hours worked are Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. After hours and weekend work are required.
Specific job title and salary depend upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Parks Maintenance Worker $17.80 per hour.
