Government Contract Accounting Specialist

An established government contracting firm is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Government Contract Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting and financial operations in a dynamic federal contracting environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to build valuable hands-on experience in the government contracting industry. The selected candidate will gain exposure to DCAA-compliant accounting practices, project-based accounting, federal invoicing, payroll, compliance reporting, and financial operations supporting real-world federal programs and contracts.

This position is fully remote; however, candidates must be available to attend onsite meetings twice monthly in Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily bookkeeping and accounting operations using QuickBooks Pro
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and financial statements
  • Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll records
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with budgeting activities
  • Track project/job costs and labor allocations for government contracts
  • Support contract invoicing, billing, and payment tracking
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready financial documentation
  • Assist with DCAA-compliant accounting practices and reporting

Qualifications

Required

  • 2–3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Pro
  • Experience with payroll, reconciliations, AP/AR, and financial reporting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred

  • Government contracting or project-based accounting experience
  • Familiarity with DCAA-compliant accounting practices
  • Knowledge of FAR/DFARS regulations
  • Experience with labor allocations and indirect cost tracking

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
