Grant Writer – Nonprofit / Veteran Services

About Stairlift for Vets

Stairlift for Vets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of America's veterans by providing and installing stairlifts for those with mobility challenges — free of charge or at reduced cost. We believe that the men and women who served our country deserve to live safely and independently in their own homes. Based in North St. Paul, MN, we are expanding our mission to Chicago, Philadelphia, and beyond.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, mission-driven Grant Writer to join our small but mighty team on a part-time basis (5–10 hours per week). This is a critical role: your words and relationships will directly fund stairlift installations for veterans across the country.

You will research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders — and you'll manage our grant pipeline in our CRM so nothing falls through the cracks.

This role is based in North St. Paul, MN (in-person preferred), but remote candidates with strong experience will be considered.

What You'll Do

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with veteran services, disability access, housing, and community health
  • Write compelling, accurate, and deadline-driven grant proposals and reports
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle — from prospecting and submission to reporting and renewal
  • Maintain and update our grant CRM (tracking deadlines, contacts, award status, and reporting requirements)
  • Collaborate with leadership to align funding strategy with our program expansion into Chicago, Philadelphia, and other markets
  • Support donor stewardship and funder communications as needed

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in English required (Communications, Journalism, or related field also considered)
  • Significant, proven experience in grant writing — you must be able to point to grants you have written and secured
  • Experience managing a grant CRM or donor database (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, GrantHub, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of the nonprofit funding landscape, including foundation, government, and corporate grants
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills — you make complex ideas clear and compelling
  • Self-starter who can work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple proposals simultaneously
  • Passion for veteran services, accessibility, and community impact is a must

Compensation & Details

  • $21.00/hour
  • 5–10 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
  • North St. Paul, MN location preferred (in-person); remote considered for the right candidate
  • Part-time, contract or employee status depending on candidate

Why This Work Matters

Every grant you secure means a veteran gets a stairlift installed in their home — restoring their independence, safety, and dignity. This isn't just writing. This is mission-critical work for the people who gave everything for our country.

Stairlift for Vets is an equal opportunity employer and proudly supports veteran employment.
