Job Title: Grant Writer / Government Contract Specialist

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Grant Writer / Government Contract Specialist to lead and support funding development through government grants and contracts, with a focus on housing, reentry, and justice-impacted populations. This role is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, managing submissions, and supporting compliance and reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of federal, state, and local government funding, particularly in areas related to housing stability, homelessness prevention, reentry services, workforce development, and supportive services.
Key Responsibilities
Grant & Contract Development
- Research, identify, and track government grant and contract opportunities (federal, state, county, and city)
- Lead proposal development for RFPs, RFQs, NOFAs, and other funding solicitations
- Write clear, compelling, and compliant grant narratives aligned with funder requirements
- Coordinate internal contributions (program, finance, leadership) for proposals
- Develop budgets and budget narratives in collaboration with finance staff
Housing & Reentry Focus
- Develop proposals related to housing programs (e.g., supportive housing, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention)
- Support funding for reentry and justice-involved populations, including case management, workforce reentry, and supportive services
- Ensure proposals reflect trauma-informed, equity-centered, and evidence-based practices
Compliance & Reporting
- Track submission deadlines and maintain organized grant files
- Support contract execution, renewals, and amendments
- Assist with required grant reporting and compliance documentation
- Monitor deliverables and funding requirements in coordination with program staff
Collaboration & Strategy
- Work closely with leadership to align funding strategy with organizational goals
- Participate in funding planning and pipeline development
- Maintain relationships with government agencies and funding partners as appropriate
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in grant writing and/or government contracting
- Demonstrated success securing government funding
- Strong knowledge of public-sector funding processes and compliance
- Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
Preferred
- Experience with housing, homelessness, reentry, or criminal justice programs
- Familiarity with HUD, DOJ, HHS, state housing agencies, or local government funding
- Experience working with nonprofit or public-sector organizations
- Budget development and financial reporting experience
