Grant Writing Consultant

Summary Role: Specialized fundraising professional responsible for researching, drafting, submitting, and managing proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Grant Research & Identification: Prospecting for new grant opportunities (local, state, federal, and private) that align with Partners goals and maintaining a grant tracking calendar.
  • Proposal Development & Writing: Crafting persuasive, accurate, and compelling grant narratives (Letters of Inquiry, full proposals, concept notes).
  • Collaboration: Working with program staff, leadership, and finance teams to gather project data, define objectives, and create detailed project budgets.
  • Compliance & Submission: Ensuring all applications meet specific funder guidelines, requirements, and deadlines.
  • Grant Management & Reporting: Maintaining accurate records, submitting post-award reports on how funds were used, and managing funder relationships.
  • Strategic Support: Assisting with the development of overall fundraising strategies and contributing to external communications (newsletters, annual reports).

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Exceptional Writing & Editing: Ability to produce clear, persuasive, and structured content tailored to different audiences.
  • Research Abilities: Proficiency in using online databases (e.g., Grants.gov, Foundation Directory Online) and finding relevant funding sources.
  • Project Management & Organization: Strong capacity to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously and maintain detailed records.
  • Budgeting Knowledge: Ability to develop and interpret project budgets in collaboration with finance teams.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Experience interacting with donors, stakeholders, and internal teams to build relationships.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with grant submission portals, Microsoft Office Suite, and CRM software.

Experience and Education Requirements

· Education: A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

· Experience: Approximately 2–5 years of proven experience in grant writing or similar fundraising roles.

· Certifications: While not required, certifications such as Grant Professional Certified (GPC) or Certified Grant Writer (CGW) can be advantageous.

· Reports to the Executive Director
