Futures Explored is seeking a qualified Graphic Design Instructor to join our Film and Media Program in Sacramento. This hands-on program trains adults with developmental disabilities in creative and technical skills used across film, media, and arts.
The ideal candidate will teach foundational and applied graphic design skills, helping students develop both artistic and professional competencies for careers in visual communication and creative industries.
Duties:
- Lead interactive, project-based classes in graphic design, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for diverse learners.
- Develop and deliver curriculum covering key design principles such as typography, color theory, layout, composition, and visual hierarchy.
- Teach industry-standard tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and support students in creating digital and print-ready assets.
- Guide students through the full design process from concept development and ideation to final production emphasizing storytelling, branding, and audience engagement.
- Support creation of design projects such as posters, social media graphics, title sequences, branding packages, and promotional materials for film and media projects.
- Provide individualized instruction and constructive feedback to strengthen students’ technical skills, creative thinking, and visual communication abilities.
- Support professional development by helping students build cohesive portfolios, develop resumes, and establish a personal brand as designers.
- Collaborate with the film and media team to integrate graphic design elements (e.g., motion graphics, title cards, marketing assets, logos, etc.) into ongoing productions.
- Promote advocacy and empowerment, ensuring all participants are treated with dignity, respect, and encouraged to express their creative voices.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for students to showcase their work, including exhibitions, online portfolios, and community partnerships.
- Contribute to a collaborative studio culture and support cross-disciplinary projects within the Film and Media team.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or higher in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Film, or a related field. OR 3-5 years of experience in related fields.
- Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or similar). Portfolio of production design and/or art work required.
- Experience in Graphic Design.
- Additional Film Production skills are a bonus but not necessary.
- Collaborative and adaptive teaching style with the ability to engage students with varying skill levels and learning styles.
- Experience teaching or mentoring others preferred; Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities but not necessary (training provided).
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple creative projects and support student success.
- LiveScan criminal record clearance (or exemption) prior to start.
- Health Screening and TB Test clearance. Prior to start.
- Physical stamina and ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively

Great if you have:
- Knowledgeable of Lanterman Act regulations, Regional Center guidelines, and State of California Licensing regulations.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED by a qualified instructor.
