POSITION OVERVIEW

Join Project Sleep, a small but growing non-profit organization, to help advance sleep health, sleep equity, and sleep disorders awareness and advocacy across the United States. This position is responsible for creating and coordinating a broad range of digital and print media to support and promote the organization’s mission, programs, and resources. This role is design-forward, with a strong emphasis on creating and distributing visual assets across digital, social, and print platforms.

We are looking for someone with 2+ years of professional experience in graphic design, multimedia content creation, and social media coordination, preferably in the social impact, health communications, or public health sector. This is a work-from-home position, so the individual should be a self-starter who manages tasks efficiently and thrives in an independent setting.

The Graphic Design & Social Media Specialist position is ideal for someone who loves learning and isn’t afraid to wear “multiple hats” at a small non-profit organization. It is essential that the individual enjoy the entire communications process from brainstorming new ideas to carefully proofreading content before publication across multiple platforms. The Graphic Design & Social Media Specialist will gain significant experience in non-profit marketing, communications, community engagement, and public relations.

ABOUT PROJECT SLEEP

Founded in 2013, Project Sleep is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of sleep health, sleep equity, and sleep disorders. Our programs range from education and awareness initiatives to advocacy efforts and the Rising Voices storytelling training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Graphic Design:

  • Design eye-catching visual assets in keeping with Project Sleep’s branding guidelines for social media, email, website, and print materials (e.g., flyers, one-pagers, toolkits, brochures); with occasional opportunities to contribute to branded merchandise and apparel design (e.g., t-shirts);
  • Translate complex health information into clear, engaging visual formats (infographics, carousels, and video formats);
  • Create and edit short-form video content for social media (e.g., Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts), including basic motion graphics, captions, and formatting for platform optimization;

Social Media:

  • Design, write, and publish social media posts and email campaign messaging aligned with Project Sleep’s voice;
  • Manage social channels and engage with the community via comment replies, sharing to stories, and DMs;
  • Plan and implement multi-channel communications strategies using a content calendar in collaboration with internal team members, including the Sleep Apnea Program Manager, to support campaigns, events, and resource promotion across Project Sleep initiatives;
  • Work closely with Project Sleep’s Digital Marketing Coordinator (who leads website and SEO strategy) to align visual and social content with broader digital initiatives and campaigns;
  • Monitor social metrics, analyze performance, and develop, test and curate content that helps expand reach and engagement;
  • Identify key awareness opportunities and new social media and fundraising trends relevant to Project Sleep’s mission to bring to leadership’s attention.

Community & Public Engagement:

  • Monitor, engage and grow our community by interacting professionally with the broader health space online and in customer service settings;
  • Represent Project Sleep at online and in-person events to reflect a positive and authentic image of the organization.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong visual design skills with an eye for layout, typography, and branding consistency and an ability to design for multiple formats (social, web, print), hand-lettering or illustration skills are a plus;
  • Experience creating short-form video content; basic motion graphics skills a plus (Canva required; Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
  • Impeccable attention to detail and proofreading skills are a must, as each communications channel has different formatting requirements and best practices that must be followed carefully;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, including the ability to communicate well with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Skilled in crafting narratives that resonate with the target audience, evoking emotional responses and prompt action;
  • Excellent at organizing self and others, defining goals and tracking outcomes;
  • Exemplary integrity and a high level of desire to make a difference.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of experience creating visual content for social media, campaigns, and digital platforms;
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in graphic design, media, communications, public health, or a related field. Professional experience can be substituted for university education;
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong graphic design work required, video work a plus;
  • Aptitude in graphic design programs such as Canva required, more advanced graphic design skills encouraged;
  • Professional experience utilizing social media channels (i.e. Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Hootsuite, ManyChats) on behalf of a business or non-profit. Experience with Meta Advertising a plus;
  • Proficiency in Wordpress and Google Drive;
  • Working knowledge of Project Sleep, its mission, and our programming.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Access to internet, telephone service, and a quiet space to conduct phone calls and video meetings without interruption is required.
  • While this is a work-from-home position, some travel may be required.
