Grocery Freight Clerk

We’re looking for a dedicated and reliable Grocery Freight Clerk to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for stocking, pricing, organizing, and supporting the daily operations of the grocery department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, and process incoming grocery shipments; verify quantities against invoices and inspect products for damage or quality concerns.
  • Stock shelves, displays, and coolers in an organized and timely manner, following FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation practices to ensure product freshness and minimize waste.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized sales floor, backroom, and storage areas.
  • Monitor inventory levels and promptly report shortages, overages, or discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Assist customers by locating products and answering basic product-related questions.
  • Follow all company policies, food safety standards, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and leadership to meet daily operational goals.
  • Support additional store needs as assigned, including price labeling, merchandising assistance, spill cleanup, and special projects.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in a grocery, retail, or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience stocking, rotating, and merchandising products.
  • Experience operating pallet jacks or other material-handling equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety and proper product handling practices preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to consistently lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure product accuracy, quality, and proper rotation.
  • Basic math skills for counting, stocking, and supporting inventory processes.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with safety procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly receive, process, and share information.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.

  • Dependable with consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Responsible use of work time and clear communication regarding scheduling changes.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
