Ground Crew Technician

The Ground Crew Technician role is a hands‑on position ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, developing practical trade skills, and contributing to safe, efficient, and professional tree‑removal operations.

As a Ground Crew Technician, the focus is on supporting the tree climber and overall jobsite workflow by managing ropes and rigging, preparing and staging equipment, maintaining clear work zones, and handling debris and cleanup. This role requires the ability to follow arborist sign calls, respond quickly to direction, and work with consistent awareness of safety and surroundings. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in physical work, communicates well under pressure, contributes to completing tree‑removal projects that are controlled, safe, and executed to professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the tree climber by preparing ropes, rigging, tools, and equipment
  • Communicate clearly with the climber to ensure safe and efficient workflow
  • Manage lowering lines, friction devices and rigging systems as directed
  • Always maintain awareness of climber position and jobsite hazards
  • Operate Chippers, chainsaws, blowers, and other ground-level equipment
  • Assist with site preparation, stage tools and materials for the climber and crew
  • Performance basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs Set up cones, signage, and barriers to maintain a safe job site

  • Drag and stack brush, logs, and debris safely, neatly and efficiently
  • Clean the jobsite to company standards, ensuring a thorough and professional finish

Qualifications

  • 2 + year’s experience in ground crew, landscaping, tree care, outdoor labor
  • Ability to follow directions and instructions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in dynamic job site conditions
  • Reliable transportation or a valid driver’s license
  • Valid driver’s license: CDL license is a plus
  • Positive attitude, punctuality, and strong work ethic
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Must speak English clearly for safety, teamwork and effective job performance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for extended periods, work in varied indoor and outdoor environments
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments including heat, cold, rain and uneven terrain
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching and performing repetitive tasks with precision
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand tools and small machinery
  • Adequate vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work early mornings, overtime, or extended hours during peak projects
  • Stamina to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the day

Compliance and Safety

  • Adherence to company safety policies, PPE requirements, and OSHA standards
  • Participation in safety briefings and report any hazards or incidents immediately
  • Maintain equipment in safe working conditions and report incidents, malfunctions
  • 3-4-day workweek to provide enough downtime to recover from the physical demands of the work
