Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery to remove snow and maintain clear, accessible conditions in the base area, parking lots, and resort roadways. This position plays a key role in ensuring guest and employee safety throughout the winter season.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment including loaders, graders, skid steers, and plow trucks for snow removal and surface maintenance.

Execute snow pushing, hauling, stacking, and general clearing to maintain safe and functional traffic areas.

Apply sand, cinders, and de-icer as directed.

Monitor changing weather and surface conditions and adjust work accordingly.

Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections of assigned equipment; report issues promptly.

Follow resort safety standards, traffic control procedures, and Mountain Operations protocols.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment, workspaces, and staging areas. -
Communicate clearly with the Snow Removal lead and team regarding assignments, hazards, and progress.

Assist with other Mountain Operations tasks as assigned.

Prior experience operating heavy equipment required.

Ability to work in extreme winter weather including cold temperatures, snow, ice, and low visibility.

Strong understanding of safe operating practices and hazard recognition.

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required; CDL preferred but not mandatory.

Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and during snow events on short notice.

Demonstrated reliability and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Ability to sit, stand, climb, and operate machinery for extended periods.

Ability to work in cold, snowy, icy, and low-visibility environments for long durations.

Outdoor mountain environment with frequent exposure to severe winter weather.

Fast-paced, high-demand operational conditions during snow events.

Requires use of heavy machinery, vehicles, and safety equipment.
