Apply today to the Grounds & Facilities Technician position at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties (BGCSDC).
The Grounds & Facilities Technician is primarily responsible for the upkeep, appearance, and safety of all outdoor spaces across BGCSDC Club locations. This role ensures that Club grounds, including play areas, athletic fields, and landscaping, are clean, safe, and welcoming. The position also provides facilities maintenance support as needed to maintain overall site functionality.
Essential Duties:
Groundskeeping & Outdoor Maintenance (Primary Focus)
Perform routine lawn care including mowing, edging, trimming, and blowing across all Club properties.
Maintain landscaping, including planting, pruning, mulching, and weed control.
Perform pressure washing of sidewalks, entryways, outdoor furniture, and other exterior surfaces to maintain a clean and professional appearance across all Club properties.
Ensure all outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and free of debris.
Inspect grounds regularly to identify hazards and report to supervisor.
Support irrigation system monitoring and basic upkeep.
Prepare grounds for seasonal changes, including storm preparation and cleanup.
Maintain outdoor equipment and tools.
Facilities Support (Secondary)
Assist with repairs and general maintenance needs inside Club facilities.
Support facility cleanliness and organization as needed.
Help with basic event setup and breakdown.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all outdoor areas meet safety standards for Member use.
Proactively identify and report potential risks.
Follow all BGCSDC Safety procedures.
Equipment & Inventory
Operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
Track and report equipment maintenance needs and supply inventory.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
1–3 years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance.
Experience operating landscaping equipment required.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Pass pre-employment background screening and drug test.
Valid FL Driver’s License and be insured under the BGCSDC’s policy.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in Florida weather conditions.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and equipment operation.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
