Starting Pay: $15-$20+/Hour (Based on Experience)

The Aviaries at Arrowhead is seeking a hardworking, dependable, and self-motivated Grounds & Facility Maintenance Technician to help maintain and improve our growing wildlife sanctuary.

This is not a typical landscaping position. Our property is home to hundreds of animals, dozens of enclosures, guest facilities, walking paths, and ongoing expansion projects. We need someone who enjoys working outdoors, building things, solving problems, and taking pride in creating a safe and beautiful environment for both animals and visitors.

Every day is different. One day you may be mowing and trimming grounds, the next you may be repairing fencing, building new habitats, installing shade structures, or helping improve guest areas throughout the park.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the overall appearance of the sanctuary grounds
  • Mowing, weed eating, edging, trimming, and general landscaping
  • Repair and maintain animal enclosures, fencing, gates, and structures
  • Assist with construction of new habitats and facility improvements
  • Monitor enclosure integrity and identify potential safety concerns
  • Repair water lines, feeders, shade structures, and enrichment items as needed
  • Assist with general property maintenance and upkeep
  • Operate tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and other equipment when necessary
  • Help ensure a safe environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and guests
  • Maintain walking paths, parking areas, and visitor spaces

What Makes This Position Unique

  • Work alongside hundreds of exotic and domestic animals
  • Help build and improve a growing wildlife sanctuary
  • Every day presents new challenges and projects
  • Opportunity to learn construction, facility maintenance, and habitat design
  • Work outdoors instead of being stuck inside an office
  • Be part of a mission focused on animal care, education, and conservation

Qualifications

  • Experience with landscaping, construction, maintenance, ranch work, or similar trades preferred
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment
  • Experience with fencing, carpentry, welding, or equipment operation is a plus
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Comfortable working outdoors in South Texas weather
  • Dependable transportation
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who notices things that need attention before being asked. Someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys building and repairing things, and understands that the condition of our property directly impacts both animal welfare and guest experience.

If you enjoy working with your hands, being outdoors, and helping create something special, we'd love to meet you.

Join our team and help build one of South Texas' most unique wildlife destinations.
