Rate of Pay: $16.50/hour

Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, a Grounds Keeping and Maintenance Facilitator performs maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of buildings, structures, and the equipment housed therein; and performs other related duties as required to maintain the grounds and areas of Bishop Museum.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Museum’s landscape. Mow and edge lawns; trim, transplant and prune plants, grass, shrubbery and trees; water and weed as necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of roads and parking areas. Gather and remove campus trash and litter from assigned areas.
  • Perform general building and fixture repairs such as repairing and replacing screens, installing non-skid strips; general carpentry repairs such as fixing doors, windows and latches, and installing and changing locks; simple plumbing repairs such as replacing appliances, replacing fixtures, replacing washers and floats, unclogging drains; and general painting work such as painting or repainting doors, ceilings etc.
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools inclusive of cleaning, lubricating and replacing defective parts. Responsible for maintaining equipment such as air conditioning units.
  • Assist with the transportation and movement of furniture, collection items, equipment, etc. as necessary.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for events, including and not limited to, tents, chairs, tables, props, and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of and at least 2 years of experience in general maintenance and groundskeeping preferred

  • Residence on the island of O'ahu is required, as this position is required to be on site

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a Museum/Office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
