**This is a part-time position that will work no more than 36 hours per week. The work schedule will vary and may include weekends.**

The Public Works Department plays a key role in maintaining and improving the City’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. The department oversees streets, traffic systems, landscaping, lighting, water, sewer, and storm drains, as well as City-owned facilities and vehicle fleets. Public Works also provides engineering, environmental compliance, and inspection services, manages capital improvement projects and recycling programs, and administers the City’s solid waste franchise. Duties/Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As our new part-time Grounds Maintenance Worker, you will:

  • Operate equipment such as; blowers, sweepers, clippers, sprayers, chainsaws, pole saws, hedge trimmers, rototillers and rodent abatement machines; make repairs to restrooms and park equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, safety inspections, and pest control; assist with tree trimming, graffiti removal, pressure washing, and weed spraying.
  • Maintain and repair in-ground irrigation systems; clean walkways and replace trash receptacles, playground equipment, picnic benches, barbeque pits, drinking fountains, and the removal of trash debris.
  • Respond to emergency calls, set out traffic control, place barricades, remove fallen trees, limbs, replace signs, and patches.
What We’re Looking For

Someone who:

  • Has knowledge of methods and equipment for weed, insect, and rodent abatement, irrigation and landscaping.
  • Has the ability to manage irrigation systems and perform related repairs.
  • Is excited by challenges, loves to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by specialized training in construction and maintenance.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of relevant journey-level maintenance experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications (For part-time Grounds Maintenance Worker only):
    • Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.

Special Requirements

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Mobility to work in the field and to perform medium to heavy physical work.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
  • Vision to inspect and operate equipment.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
