This position is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas. The right candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and have a strong knowledge of landscaping principles and procedures. As a grounds manager, you will be expected to take a proactive approach to ensure the grounds are safe, attractive, and well-maintained while meeting the highest standards. Grounds Manager Responsibilities & Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the work of groundskeeping staff, including scheduling, training, and providing performance feedback.
- Inspect and assess the condition of the grounds, including lawns, gardens, irrigation systems, ponds and other outdoor features, and develop plans for improvement.
- Manage and execute landscaping projects, such as planting trees and shrubs, installing and maintaining irrigation systems, and designing and implementing new outdoor features.
- Ensure the proper care and maintenance of all groundskeeping equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, and hand tools.
- Oversee the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the grounds, including trash removal, leaf blowing, and snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as maintenance and facilities, to ensure the proper functioning of outdoor amenities and address any issues or repairs in a timely manner.
- Develop and manage the groundskeeping budget, including forecasting expenses, sourcing materials, and evaluating cost-saving opportunities.
Grounds Manager Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a grounds manager or similar role, with a strong knowledge of horticulture, landscape design, and groundskeeping techniques.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.
- In-depth understanding of irrigation systems, pest management, and landscape maintenance.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations related to grounds management.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff and external vendors.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. On call during all snow events is mandatory for this position.
