The University of Texas Permian Basin's Physical Plant welcomes applications for the position of Groundskeeper III
Salary Range
$41,600.00 depending on qualifications
The Physical Plant department is seeking a self-motivated individual with groundskeeping experience who can adapt to changing priorities and unforeseen tasks. This position performs skilled routine work in the care and maintenance of lawns, plants, flowers, and trees, as well as the overall upkeep of University grounds. Responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing the appearance and general beautification of all outdoor areas, including floral gardens, landscaped spaces, and parking areas.
1. To maintain lawns by planting, cultivating, fertilizing and watering grass; cut grass using proper equipment.
2. Cultivate, prune, transplant, fertilize and water shrubbery, hedges and trees.
3. Grade and prepare for planting; plant and maintain flower bed.
4. Remove leaves and rubbish from ground.
5. Watch for pests, disease, or other deteriorating agents, and take necessary steps for their eradication.
6. Cut weeds and brush.
7. Clean and maintain tools, equipment, material and supplies.
8. Report and/or replace broken or leaking sprinkler systems and grounds hazards.

1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
2. Two (2) years previous experience in grounds care and maintenance.
3. Must hold a current license or certification in one of the following:
a. Small engine mechanic
b. Pest Control applicator
c. Herbicide applicator
d. Texas License Irrigator
e. Hold a current Arborist certification
1. More than three (3) years of experience; some at UT level.

Schedule
Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:00 pm; Friday, 6:00 am – 10:00 am with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 100% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
