Group Dog Hiker

Job Summary
Join our dynamic team as a Group Dog Hiker, where your passion for animals and love of the outdoors come together to create joyful, enriching experiences for dogs and their owners. In this energetic role, you will lead groups of dogs on supervised hikes, ensuring their safety, well-being, and happiness while providing exceptional pet care. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, stay active, and make a positive impact on our furry clients’ lives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead groups of dogs on scheduled hikes at Fort Funston, maintaining control and ensuring safety at all times
  • Monitor dog behavior and intervene as needed to prevent conflicts or injuries
  • Provide basic dog training cues and reinforce good manners during outings
  • Handle animals with care, utilizing animal restraint techniques when necessary
  • Maintain clean and safe hiking routes, including checking for hazards or obstacles
  • Communicate effectively with team members and pet owners regarding each dog’s needs and progress
  • basic grooming tasks when required to support overall pet care
  • Driving for about 2 hours during pick up to the hike and another approximate 2 hours for drop offs on return from the hike.

Qualifications

  • Have at least one year of experience handling with dogs in a professional setting
  • Comfortable working with active and confident dogs as well as dogs who have some anxieties.
  • Knowledge of dog training techniques and veterinary experience is a plus
  • Ability to handle animals safely and read dog body language
  • Strong customer service skills to communicate confidently with pet owners
  • Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and outdoor activities in various weather conditions
  • Valid experience in veterinary technician or assistant roles is beneficial but not required
  • Passionate about dogs and their care, considering yourself an advocate for them
  • Will not use any tools which inflict pain
  • Love outdoors in all seasons
  • Excited to have a career working with dogs
  • A team player
  • Are an experienced driver and have a clean driving record (required)

This job is incredibly rewarding, but also challenging. As we work through the stresses of issues which arise, we grow and find that we appreciate this job and our dogs even more. It's important to us that you can stay with us long-term, are willing to work even when you're not feeling 100% (we respect your need to stay home when sick, though!) and are friendly/respectful with the owners of the dogs

Part time= 3 days a week. Tuesdays and Thursdays to start and adding a 3rd day when trained.

There will be added opportunities for additional income.

All Dog Hikers are provided a vehicle, competitive compensation, paid daily lunch, sick pay and retirement benefits. As an employee, you will be covered by workers compensation benefits, as well.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
