Overview
The Group Family Daycare Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of the daycare program. This role ensures compliance with all New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations while creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
The Director will oversee staff, maintain program quality, support families, and ensure the program operates efficiently and in alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
Program Leadership & Operations
- Oversee daily daycare operations, ensuring a structured and engaging environment
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with early childhood standards
- Maintain compliance with OCFS licensing regulations
- Manage enrollment, attendance, and child records
- Lead and support a team of caregivers and educators, providing training in early childhood education best practices and classroom management
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including first aid procedures, emergency preparedness, and health regulations compliance
- Foster strong relationships with families by communicating regularly about children’s progress, behavior management strategies, and developmental goals
- Oversee licensing requirements, maintain accurate records, conduct inspections, and ensure all facilities meet state and local regulations
- Coordinate ongoing professional development opportunities for staff in areas such as special education, working with children with disabilities, toddler care, infant care, and caregiving techniques
Qualifications
- Minimum Associate’s Degree or CDA in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
- At least 2–3 years of experience in a childcare or daycare setting
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience
- Knowledge of OCFS regulations for Group Family Daycare
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Proven experience working with children in settings such as preschool, daycare, nannying or babysitting roles; classroom experience is highly valued
- Demonstrated knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education practices
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively and foster a positive work environment
- Certification in first aid and CPR; additional certifications in special education or working with individuals with disabilities are a plus
- Excellent communication skills to engage with families, staff, licensing agencies, and community partners
- Ability to handle behavior management challenges with patience and professionalism

Pay: $22.71 - $24.76 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week
