Position Summary: The Donation Yard Associate/Backup Driver will help keep the Habitat ReStore clean, stocked, and organized. This position will make sure the donation processing area is always looking its best and getting donated items out on the sales floor as quick as possible! They will also make sure that all customers are helped and happy while visiting the ReStore. This position will get the chance to help donors, assist in pricing, and monitor the flow of merchandise on and off the sales floor. On occasion this employee will fill in for the driver or assistant driver, picking up donations around Sonoma County with the box truck.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment
- Open and close the donation drop off zone, including gates and doors and placing sign in front of store
- Oversee the receiving of donated items, helping to unload ReStore trucks and donor vehicles with courtesy and professionalism
- Track and record cars and donations as they drive through the drop-off zone, providing donors with receipts as needed
- Answer general customer questions with patience and great customer service
- Process all donated items, cleaning and sorting items to determine where they need to be distributed
- Price items that are not designated as “specialty” items and distribute to sales floor
- Clean furniture and large donations, coordinate pricings and floor placement
- Maintain metal recycling bins and direct volunteers to assist with trash and cardboard
- Work on simple assembly projects when needed
- Always keep a clean, stocked and organized work area
- Assist customers by bringing purchases to their vehicles, called “carry-out”
- Work with managers, processing coordinator and lighting volunteers to determine value of donated goods
- Follow all ReStore policies and procedures closely in the warehouse and outside yard
Backup Driver Responsibilities:
- Driving a 16' (or more) box truck to pick up donations
- Providing a prompt, professional pickup service for customers with donations
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of truck
- Assist with loading donated materials into truck with courtesy and professionalism
- Upkeep of vehicles, including informing manager when there is an issue that needs to be addressed
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) is highly desirable
- Must have a clean CA driver’s license and be able to be insured on Habitat's insurance policy
- Must pass physical exam pre-employment
- Must be 21 years old to be covered by our auto insurance
- Experience driving a box truck or large vehicle
- Must be a Team Player

Education, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Some knowledge of tools, building supplies and home improvement highly desirable
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle merchandise and fixtures throughout the store. Physical ability to bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in a warehouse environment includes exposure to dust, heat and cold.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting, climbing and crawling; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; operate motorized equipment or vehicles; bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time; near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; lift horizontally and vertically. Step up into elevated truck repeatedly and walk on metal ramp, often carrying furniture.
Time Requirements:
- This is a Full Time, 32-40 hour per week position. It may be necessary to occasionally work extra hours as determined by the supervisor.
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
