Position Overview: We are seeking a proactive, versatile, and reliable Handyman / Porter to join the maintenance team at a premier mixed-use (commercial/residential) condominium in Midtown West, Manhattan. This role is vital in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of our property.
This is a strict 50/50 hybrid role. The ideal candidate will possess the technical skills required to maintain and repair building systems, alongside the willingness and dedication to perform daily cleaning and manual labor. We are looking for a true team player who takes pride in keeping the building both mechanically sound and visually immaculate, while providing excellent customer service to our residents. Early-career mechanical engineers or individuals with similar technical backgrounds looking to gain hands-on building experience are highly encouraged to apply!
Key Responsibilities:
Handyman Duties (50%)
- Execute basic electrical and plumbing repairs throughout the building and common areas, as well as routine carpentry, painting, and general handyman tasks.
- Maintain and troubleshoot building mechanical systems, including domestic water pumps, motors, lighting, etc.
- Utilize technical diagrams and read schematics to diagnose electrical or mechanical issues.
- Assist the Superintendent with larger mechanical diagnostics, preventative maintenance programs, and equipment security.
- Respond promptly to building maintenance work orders and occasional tenant/unit owner maintenance inquiries, maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
- Maintain a stocked workshop of tools and supplies, keeping inventory and stock well supplied.
- Maintain accurate records to track work orders, inspections, and repairs.
Porter Duties (50%)
- Clean and sanitize all common areas, including lobbies, hallways, rooftop, elevators, and exterior grounds.
- Manage daily trash and recycling removal in compliance with NYC sanitation guidelines.
- Perform manual labor, including moving supplies, operating cleaning equipment, and managing building deliveries.
- Assist with freight entrance deliveries, ensuring pathways are clear, protected, and cleaned.
Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proven experience with basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance.
- Porter Experience: Preferred experience in janitorial, cleaning, or porter roles. Must be completely comfortable with the physical demands of daily cleaning and trash removal.
- Communication: English communication skills necessary for effective collaboration with team members and residents.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, operate cleaning machinery, and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Bonus Skills: A background in mechanical engineering or advanced mechanical training is a major advantage. Familiarity with building maintenance software and basic welding for structural repairs is highly desirable. Valid facilities maintenance certification is a plus.
Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
