We’re looking for an experienced landscaping and hardscaping professional who takes pride in quality workmanship, has a strong work ethic, and can help bring outdoor projects to life from start to finish.
Job description: Quality Outdoor Services is currently hiring landscape construction crewmembers that are interested in a career in the landscaping industry.
Starting pay is based on experience. Quick raises to hard workers. (Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour).
Position Summary: The landscape crewmember is in charge of completing landscape installation tasks as well as lawn maintenance and seasonal snow removal safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards. You will also serve as an on-site point of contact for supervisors and customers. The role is based in Howell, Michigan. Benefits are available and will be discussed at the time of interview.
Key Responsibilities
– Landscaping Season- Lead, motivate, and complete landscape installation, renovation, and maintenance tasks according to plans, specifications, and company quality standards (e.g., grading, planting, mulch, sod, bed work, and site clean-up) on Michigan residential and commercial properties.
- Coordinate and participate in construction of hardscape features such as brick paver patios, walkways, retaining walls, and boulder work, using proper base preparation, installation techniques, and finish details consistent with MIOSHA construction safety rules.
- Review daily work orders and site plans, organize tools, materials, and equipment, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within allocated hours while maintaining clean, orderly job sites.
- Perform routine equipment and vehicle inspections, report maintenance needs, and ensure proper, safe use of trucks, trailers, skid steers, compactors, and hand tools by all crew members, in line with MIOSHA and company safety procedures.
- Monitor site safety and housekeeping, enforce company safety policies and required PPE, and promptly address hazards, property damage, or incidents, including reporting as required under MIOSHA.
Key Responsibilities
– Snow and Ice Season
- Lead a snow crew to clear snow from drives, parking areas, walks, and steps for Michigan residential and commercial properties using trucks, plows, skid steers, snow blowers, and shovels.
- Oversee and assist with the safe application of de-icing materials (salt and other approved products), following site maps and service specifications to keep properties accessible and reduce slip hazards during Michigan winter events.
- Respond to winter weather events on an on-call basis, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, and adjust routes and priorities based on storm conditions and supervisor direction.
- Complete and review service logs, time records, and site condition notes after events, communicating issues such as icy trouble spots, parked-vehicle challenges, equipment breakdowns, or customer concerns.
Leadership, Communication, and Customer Service
- Act as the on-site contact for owners/management, providing status updates, raising problems quickly, and following direction on scope changes or add-on work while representing the company professionally to Michigan customers.
- Train new and existing crew members on company standards, equipment operation, jobsite efficiency, safe work practices, and MIOSHA-required safety procedures, providing clear feedback and coaching in the field.- Interact courteously with customers, answer basic questions about work being performed, and refer estimates, design questions, or scope changes to the owner/manager.
Qualifications and Requirements- Prior experience in landscape installation/maintenance and operation of related equipment; previous crew lead or working-foreman experience in landscaping, construction, or snow operations is essential.
- Ability to work long days outdoors in varied Michigan weather, including heat, rain, cold, snow, and ice, and to perform frequent lifting, bending, and other physically demanding tasks.
- Valid Michigan driver's license, an acceptable/insurable driving record, and ability to operate company trucks and trailers in compliance with company vehicle policies and applicable state and DOT requirements.
- Experience hauling equipment.
- Willingness and availability to work flexible and extended hours during peak seasons, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during snow events.
