Position Overview

ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY (IPA) seeks an enthusiastic High School Hawaiian Culture and Language Position Teacher to join our dedicated faculty. The position is a half time (50%) teaching position. The teacher will lead classes/courses with a multidisciplinary, place-based, and project-based pedagogical model. By integrating language studies with historical, ecological, and artistic frameworks, these courses fulfill the school’s mission of academic excellence while grounding students in the specific context of the islands.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement dynamic curriculum for our Hawaiian Culture and Language courses with a focus on
  • ?ōlelo Hawai?i (Language Basics)
  • Mō?aukala & Pilina ?āina (Early History & Environment)
  • Nā Waiwai (Core Values & Agreements)
  • Hana No?eau & Pila (Arts & Instruments)
  • May Day Support
  • Employ innovative instructional strategies to engage students and promote critical thinking, creativity, and inquiry.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity, fosters collaboration, and encourages mutual respect.
  • Integrate IPA's core values into daily instruction, emphasizing kindness, generosity, growth mindset, excellence, and ingenuity.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support continuous growth and development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and initiatives that enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities to refine teaching practice and stay abreast of best practices in education.
  • Maintain open and proactive communication with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure student success and well-being.

Applicant Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Olelo (Hawaiian Language), Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian culture or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Valid teaching credential or certification
  • Previous teaching experience at the secondary level, preferably in Hawaiian Studies, language and culture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to IPA's vision, mission, and core values
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design, instructional methodologies, and assessment strategies
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible, adaptable, and growth-oriented mindset
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development

Salary Range: $27,000 to $35,000
