NSSI offers services to a diverse customer base in government, industrial, radiopharmaceutical, and educational sectors. It is home to a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed for waste storage and treatment, rendering waste less hazardous for disposal.

NSSI currently has an opening for a Hazardous Chemical Waste Profiler.

The Chemical Hazardous Waste Profiler is responsible for the characterization, regulatory review, approval, and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams entering and exiting the company’s Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF). This position requires strong knowledge of RCRA waste characterization, hazardous waste codes, waste profiling, analytical review, and disposal outlet management.

The ideal candidate is an independent thinker capable of evaluating incomplete information, identifying potential regulatory concerns, and making technically sound and defensible waste characterization decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Review, characterize, and approve hazardous and non-hazardous waste profiles.
  • Assign and verify applicable EPA hazardous waste codes (D, F, K, P, and U listings) and state waste designations.
  • Review and interpret analytical data including TCLP, VOC, SVOC, metals, flash point, PCB, pH, and other waste characterization testing.
  • Evaluate waste generation processes and manufacturing operations to ensure accurate waste characterization.
  • Identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete information and proactively obtain clarification from customers, generators, sales representatives, and operations personnel.
  • Manage pending profiles and act as a liaison between Operations, Sales, Customer Service, and disposal outlets.
  • Review SDSs, analytical reports, process knowledge, and supporting documentation to ensure proper waste classification and regulatory compliance.
  • Determine disposal, treatment, recycling, fuel blending, and alternative management options based on waste characteristics and facility capabilities.
  • Ensure wastes comply with RCRA, DOT, State, Federal, permit, and facility-specific acceptance requirements.
  • Ensure inbound waste profiles have approved outbound disposal pathways prior to final approval.
  • Coordinate profile submissions, renewals, amendments, and recertifications with downstream TSDFs and recycling facilities.
  • Monitor profile expiration dates and manage recertification requirements.
  • Assist Sales and Customer Service with technical waste characterization questions and regulatory guidance.
  • Generate routine reports using multiple databases and information systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hazardous waste profiling, waste approvals, TSDF operations, disposal coordination, or related hazardous waste management experience.
  • Working knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations and waste code assignment.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting laboratory analytical data for waste characterization.
  • Familiarity with DOT hazardous materials regulations.
  • Experience working directly with TSDFs, disposal facilities, recyclers, fuel blending facilities, or hazardous waste generators.
  • Strong problem-solving, investigative, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple waste streams and make defensible regulatory decisions.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
