Hazardous & Medical Waste Manager / Material Handler

Environmental Compliance Consultants, Inc. (ECC) is seeking an experienced Hazardous/Medical Waste Manager/Material Handler to support facilities within the Puget Sound Veterans Administration healthcare system in and around Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, Washington. ECC is a full-service environmental company headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, with additional service centers and personnel located in Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Kaneohe, Hawaii; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Ogden, Utah; and North Pole, Alaska.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly dependable, self-motivated professional who can work independently with minimal oversight. The selected candidate will be the sole ECC employee supporting this contract in the area, with remote support from our Portland Service Center, and will serve as ECC’s primary on-site representative to VA personnel throughout the region. This role requires strong judgment, accountability, professionalism, integrity, and the ability to build client trust through consistent, reliable performance.

The position requires a regular Monday through Friday schedule with very limited exceptions. Consistent attendance, schedule reliability, and the ability to independently support multiple assigned facilities as planned are essential. The selected candidate must be able to pass a stringent government background check to obtain required site security clearances, as well as a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana, as this is a safety-sensitive position.

The Hazardous/Medical Waste Manager/Material Handler will independently manage hazardous, non-hazardous, pharmaceutical, universal, and medical waste streams for assigned VA facilities in the Puget Sound region. The ideal candidate will have practical field experience applying RCRA requirements and will be comfortable managing inspections, waste handling, documentation, compliance activities, and client coordination on their own. Candidates should reside in the Seattle, Tacoma, or Olympia area and be able to travel regularly to multiple regional facilities on a weekly schedule. A company vehicle is provided for business use and may also be used for commuting to and from your residence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage hazardous, non-hazardous, pharmaceutical, universal, and medical waste in accordance with applicable regulations and contract requirements
  • Serve as ECC’s primary on-site representative and direct point of contact for VA personnel in the region
  • Work independently and professionally as the sole ECC employee assigned to the area
  • Maintain a dependable Monday through Friday work schedule with very limited exceptions
  • Manage weekly travel to multiple facilities to perform assigned duties on schedule
  • Conduct inspections of waste containers, accumulation areas, and related operations for compliance
  • Profile, inspect, label, containerize, sample, consolidate, and lab-pack waste as required
  • Prepare hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and coordinate pickups and disposal
  • Use waste tracking systems and complete required data entry and reporting accurately and on time
  • Maintain strong client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and consistent follow-through
  • Perform routine inspections of company vehicle and equipment
  • Protect sensitive and confidential information encountered in the course of work

Qualifications

  • Verifiable experience in hazardous waste management, including profiling, labeling, inspections, and container management
  • Working knowledge of RCRA and medical waste requirements and waste handling operations
  • Knowledge of DOT transportation requirements related to waste handling and shipment
  • Ability to work independently with little to no local supervision with strong self-motivation, personal accountability, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated dependability, professionalism, and absolute integrity
  • Ability to serve as the face of ECC and build positive working relationships directly with clients
  • Possess or be able to obtain a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Ability to pass required government background checks and pre-employment drug screening
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass occupational and DOT physicals, as applicable
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including walking, lifting, driving, drum handling, verbal communication, and visual acuity
  • Must comply with company drug-free workplace requirements, including restrictions related to marijuana use as applicable to this safety sensitive position
  • Highly reliable and consistent in attendance, follow-through, and schedule adherence
  • Organized, responsive, and able to manage a recurring weekly workload with minimal deviation

Pay: $32.00 - $38.00 per hour
