Here is the Job Description (JD) for Senior Resident (SR) – HDU (High Dependency Unit):

Job Title: Senior Resident – HDU

Department: Critical Care / Medicine
Reporting To: Consultant / HOD – Critical Care / Medicine

Job Summary:

The Senior Resident – HDU is responsible for managing critically ill and high-risk patients requiring close monitoring and advanced medical care. The role involves clinical decision-making, coordination with consultants, supervising junior doctors, and ensuring adherence to hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Management

  • Assess, evaluate, and manage patients admitted to HDU.

  • Perform detailed clinical examinations and formulate treatment plans.

  • Monitor vital parameters and respond promptly to patient deterioration.

  • Manage patients requiring oxygen therapy, NIV (BiPAP/CPAP), and post-operative monitoring.

  • Handle medical emergencies and initiate resuscitation (Code Blue).

2. Procedures

  • Perform and assist in procedures such as:

    • Central venous line insertion

    • Arterial line placement

    • Intubation (if trained)

    • Lumbar puncture

    • Pleural/ascitic tapping

  • Interpret ABG, ECG, X-rays, and lab reports.

3. Coordination & Supervision

  • Coordinate with consultants and intensivists regarding patient care.

  • Supervise Junior Residents and nursing staff.

  • Ensure smooth shift handovers.

  • Communicate patient condition and treatment plans to relatives.

4. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment sheets.

  • Ensure adherence to infection control and biomedical waste protocols.

  • Participate in clinical audits and departmental meetings.

Qualification & Experience:

  • MBBS with MD/DNB (Medicine / Anesthesia / Critical Care)
    OR MBBS with minimum 2–3 years of experience in ICU/HDU.

  • Valid State Medical Council Registration.

  • ACLS/BLS certified (preferred).
