We are a developer and a single-family home building company seeking a skilled and experienced Head Construction Accountant to join our team and lead the development of our accounting department. Job Description

As the Head Accountant, you will oversee all accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with industry standards. You will manage the accounting department, hire personnel when it’s required, prepare financial statements, and collaborate with project managers to maintain and support the company’s financial performance. This position reports directly to the Owner and the outside CPA. Full-time, in-house presence is required.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable. Coding to individual houses, payroll, and general ledger entries. Strong double entry skills are a necessity.

· Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.

· Assist with draw requests with lenders to maintain a steady, normalized cash flow.

· Interact and maintain communication with outside CPA on accounting reports and regulatory matters monthly.

· Interact with the payroll service and oversee preparation of annual W-2 and 1099 Forms.

· Work with an outside consultant for training in BuilderTrend if necessary.

· Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards by working with the outside CPA.

· Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and support for ongoing projects.

· Perform the coding of accounts payable to house development sub-ledgers.

· Implement and maintain the account system and controls.

· Supervise and mentor newly hired accounting staff, as required.

· Calculate and maintain systems to capitalize interest to houses and developments under construction.

· Handle Worker’s Compensation audits.

· Monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.

· Manage vendor invoices, payments, and lien waivers.

· Budget tracking and variance reporting for active projects.

· Provide a closing analysis for homes after closing.

· Provide payroll support and coordination with ADP.

Qualifications

· Associate degree or heavy accounting experience.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience as Head Accountant in the construction industry.

· Proficiency in QuickBooks construction accounting software; with knowledge of BuilderTrend being a plus.

· Strong self-starter and finisher.

· Ability to get along with other company personnel.

· Experience with coding accounts payable to house subledgers.

· Proficiency in Word and Excel.

· Effective communicator using email.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

· Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
