Role Description The Head Cook is a part-time, on-site role based in Mayer, MN, responsible for overseeing daily food preparation and kitchen operations for the school. This role plans and prepares nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks that meet dietary guidelines, portion standards, and any allergy or special dietary requirements. The Head Cook manages menu planning, ordering and receiving food and supplies, monitoring inventory, and controlling waste to stay within budget. The role includes supervising kitchen workflows, maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment, and following health and sanitation regulations at all times. The Head Cook will also coordinate serving times with school schedules, interact courteously with students and staff, and collaborate with school leadership on meal programs and special events.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in cooking for groups, preferably in a school, childcare, or institutional setting.
• Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper food handling and storage practices.
• Ability to plan balanced menus, accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions, and follow nutritional guidelines.
• Organizational skills for ordering, receiving, and managing inventory while minimizing waste.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, multitask, and meet time-sensitive meal schedules.
• Basic math and record-keeping skills for portions, recipes, and tracking supplies and costs.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills for working with school staff, students, and vendors.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift and carry supplies as required for kitchen work.
• Food service experience and license required

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
