Job Description

Aldar Education are currently seeking an outstanding Head of Mathematics for the Middle and Senior School at Mamoura British Academy in Abu Dhabi commencing in the academic year. Mamoura British Academy is a British curriculum, mixed gender school located in a state of the art building in Abu Dhabi. Responsibilities
  • Strategic direction and development of the department:
    • Develop and implement policies and practices reflecting the school's vision and commitment to high standards of achievement.
    • Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium and long term plans for the department's development.
    • Use data to identify underachieving students, create and implement action plans.
    • Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and SEF writing.
    • Ensure appropriate schemes of work are developed, reviewed, and evaluated for all year groups, including SEN/POD, G&T and EAL provision.
  • Teaching and learning:
    • Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression for all students, including those of high ability and with special educational needs.
    • Establish and implement policies for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement.
    • Ensure the department follows school policies for learning, including the Marking Policy and Teacher and Learner DNA characteristics.
    • Set high expectations for staff in relation to standards of achievement, quality of learning, teaching and behaviour.
    • Evaluate teaching and learning quality, identify effective practice and areas for improvement, and take actions to further improve quality.
    • Contribute to the school's ECA Programme and after school Booster/Revision sessions for I/GCSE and A Level courses.
  • Leading and managing staff:
    • Performance manage the team in accordance with the school performance management policy.
    • Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships, ensuring collaboration, support, accountability and high professional standards.
    • Hold regular department meetings with minutes and agendas focused on improving student achievement and teaching and learning standards.
  • Managing resources:
    • Efficiently deploy staff and resources.
    • Maintain control of the department's resource and CapEx budgets.
    • Effectively use allocated teaching spaces to create a stimulating environment in line with the Learning Environment Policy.
    • Ensure a safe working and learning environment, with risks properly assessed and Health and Safety policy observed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities:
    • Contribute to the school's ECA Programme by leading or supporting one after school activity each term.
    • Act as an academic mentor to years students.
    • Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota.
    • Play an active role in pastoral aspects, including responsibility as a form tutor/link tutor.
    • Cover for absent colleagues.
    • Invigilate examinations, including at least one evening and one weekend external exam session.
    • Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related subject with PGCE or equivalent.
  • Minimum experience: Six years teaching experience in the English National Curriculum.
  • Job specific knowledge and skills:
    • Outstanding teacher with proven success across the age ability range.
    • Experience in more than one International School desirable.
    • Experience teaching the UK National Curriculum.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Commitment to the MBA Vision and Mission Statement.
    • Passion for education and belief in every student's potential.
    • Ability to work under pressure, problem solve and be resilient.
    • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
