The Head of AI Automation & Business Process Optimization Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling AI-driven workflows, automation solutions, and business process improvements across the organization.

This role focuses on rethinking how business is done, improving operational efficiency, and reducing manual processes while ensuring full alignment with legal, regulatory, and cybersecurity compliance frameworks, including CMMC, FAR/DFARS, and federal contracting requirements.

The ideal candidate combines technical capability, process engineering, and business acumen to transform workflows across HR, Finance, Contracts, Program Management, and Business Development functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

AI Automation & Workflow Optimization

  • Design and implement AI-enabled automation solutions to streamline business processes
  • Identify inefficiencies across departments and re-engineer workflows for scalability
  • Deploy tools for automation (RPA, low-code/no-code platforms, AI copilots)
  • Reduce manual processes and cycle times across core business operations

Business Process Reengineering

  • Analyze current-state workflows across HR, Finance, Contracts, and BD
  • Develop future-state process models focused on efficiency and scalability
  • Standardize processes to support growth and repeatability
  • Implement continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma concepts as applicable)

Compliance & Secure Systems Integration

  • Ensure all automation solutions align with CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) requirements
  • Maintain compliance with FAR, DFARS, and federal data handling regulations
  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure secure system architecture
  • Ensure proper handling of controlled unclassified information (CUI)

Enterprise Systems & Tool Integration

  • Integrate AI and automation tools with existing enterprise systems (HRIS, accounting, CRM, proposal tools)
  • Support implementation of GovCon systems (e.g., timekeeping, accounting, contract management tools)
  • Ensure interoperability across platforms to improve data flow and visibility
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies aligned with business objectives

Data Strategy & Decision Support

  • Enable data-driven decision-making through automation and reporting tools
  • Develop dashboards and reporting capabilities for leadership insight
  • Improve accessibility and usability of operational and financial data
  • Support predictive analytics and forecasting capabilities where applicable

Change Management & Adoption

  • Lead organizational adoption of new tools and processes
  • Train staff on automation tools and optimized workflows
  • Develop user guides, SOPs, and documentation
  • Drive cultural shift toward efficiency, innovation, and AI-enabled operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May lead cross-functional automation initiatives and project teams
  • Provide guidance to IT staff, analysts, and business stakeholders
  • No direct reports required initially, but functional leadership is expected

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–10+ years of experience in process improvement, automation, or systems integration
  • Experience implementing workflow automation or AI-enabled tools
  • Understanding of business operations across HR, Finance, Contracts, or Program Management
  • U.S. Citizenship required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in government contracting, defense, or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with CMMC, NIST 800-171, FAR/DFARS compliance requirements
  • Experience with automation platforms (e.g., UiPath, Power Automate, Zapier, custom AI solutions)
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, HRIS)
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or process improvement training

  • Strong understanding of business process optimization and automation strategies
  • Ability to balance innovation with compliance requirements
  • Technical aptitude with AI tools, automation platforms, and system integrations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a remote or hybrid environment, supporting enterprise-wide systems and workflows across corporate and program operations.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $100,000 – $170,000+ annually

  • Eligible for performance-based incentives

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS

  • May support proposal efforts as Key Personnel
  • Employment dependent on business needs and funding
