About the Opportunity:

John Paul College is seeking an exceptional educational leader to join our Primary School as Head of Diverse Learning - Primary, commencing in 2026.

This is a significant 5-year leadership opportunity that will oversee and coordinate all learning support and extension programmes across Kindergarten to Year 6. As a member of our Primary School Leadership Team, you will work under the direction of the Dean of Academic Welfare to champion inclusive excellence and ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive.

The Head of Diverse Learning - Primary will supervise a team of Learning Support Teachers and Learning Assistants while collaborating closely with classroom teachers, counsellors, and the broader Primary leadership team to create responsive, evidence-based interventions for students requiring disability support, learning assistance, enrichment, or gifted and talented programming.

Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Diverse Learning - Primary will:

  • Student Support: Oversee explicit intervention for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 requiring support, whether disability, learning support, enrichment, or gifted and talented programming
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate Learning Support Teachers and Learning Assistants, building team capacity and collaborative practices
  • Case Management: Monitor student progress diagnostically and formatively, maintaining accurate records and case managing students alongside the Diverse Learning team
  • Staff Collaboration: Liaise closely with classroom teachers to assess student needs, guide the Ascertainment process, and develop individualized support plans
  • Compliance & Reporting: Oversee NCCD reporting, archiving requirements, and communication with ISQ regarding support levels. Know and understand the Disability Discrimination Act and apply the Disability Standards for Education
  • Curriculum Oversight: Ensure learning enhancement, enrichment, support, and gifted and talented programmes are implemented effectively with quality assessment and reporting
  • Parent Partnership: Report regularly to parents on student achievement and arrange interviews to gather and share data on student progress
  • Strategic Leadership: Take a proactive role in implementing JPC's Strategic Vision with a focus on learning and academic wellbeing for all students
  • Demonstrated experience and exemplary track record in a similar leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and programmes for diverse learning
  • Demonstrated application for the NCCD model as part of a whole-school approach to supporting students with disability
  • Proven track record supervising a team of accomplished diverse learning educators
  • 10+ years' experience as a teacher
  • 5+ years' experience as a Diverse Learning and Gifted and Talented teacher
  • 3+ years supervising or mentoring Diverse Learning educators and/or learning support aides
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft applications and ability to learn new systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate, and manage staff, students, and parents

Qualifications & Compliance:

  • Appropriate qualifications in a relevant area such as TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Special Education
  • Current QCT registration
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate
  • Eligibility to work in Australia
  • Willingness to undergo employment screening and meet child safety legislative requirements
