Head of Editorial

The Head of Editorial is responsible for managing the Editorial team and their deliverables. He/she oversees the development of all press releases and editorial content created by the team, providing guidance, mentorship and feedback to drive quality and reach of content across digital and traditional channels, including media releases for GDMO, DPC, Brand Dubai and government/semi-government/private entities, as well as website content for GDMO, DPC and Brand Dubai. He/she is responsible for ensuring the Dubai Key Messages, a matrix of communication messages aligned with the Dubai Vision, are developed in line with inputs from Media Analytics and used across all press releases and editorial content, with the aim to promote and protect Dubai and its Leadership. The Head of Editorial is additionally responsible for supporting the Strategic Relations Director with Crisis Communications content, including statements and fact sheets, in case of crisis situations. The role holder is expected to demonstrate leadership skills and carry out his/her duties in accordance with the relevant business policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities


General Responsibilities


  • Manage the Editorial team to ensure on-time and quality press releases are developed in Arabic and/or English for GDMO, government/semi-government/private entities, DPC and Brand Dubai
  • Support the Strategic Relations Director with Crisis Comms activities related to developing press releases and the fact sheet.
  • Provide direction and oversee the development of the Dubai Key Messages in line with the inputs from Media Analytics

Provide guidance and mentorship to Senior Editors/Editor’s, fostering their growth and development


Press and Editorial Content Management


  • Monitor workloads across the Editorial team, assigning press releases to Editors and Senior Editors in a fair and balanced manner for all GDMO, Brand Dubai and DPC press releases
  • Monitor workloads across the Editorial team, assigning press releases to Editors and Senior Editors/Editor’s in a fair and balanced manner for all government, semi-government and private entity press releases
  • Review all translations from Arabic to English and vice versa for GDMO, Brand Dubai and DPC news content (for media and website, as needed)
  • Review all translations from Arabic to English and vice versa for government, semi-government and private entities’ news content (for media and website, as needed)
  • Edit and proofread press releases from Senior Editors and Editors in Arabic and/or English for grammar, style, tone, and accuracy
  • Provide feedback on all press releases from Senior Editors and Editors in Arabic and/or English, building on-the-job training and editorial skills across the team
  • Approve and sign off on all press releases from Senior Editors and Editors in Arabic and/or English
  • Develop a calendar of feature stories to be created on a monthly basis in line with the Dubai Key Messages

Lead regular reviews of press releases, identifying reach and the possible factors that contributed to specific press releases having higher or lower reach, in order to drive higher quality and higher reach across the Editorial team’s outputs


Crisis Communications


  • Develop Crisis Communications content, including initial and on-going statements across social media and news channels (TV and print), as applicable
  • Develop fact sheets for crises, in line with the Crisis Communications process

Qualifications


Experience Required


Functional Experience


  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a similar role


Leadership/Supervisory


  • A minimum of 7 years working in a team


Education and Qualification Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications

  • On-time creation of editorial content for GDMO, DPC and Brand Dubai (%)
  • On-time creation of editorial content for government, semi-government and private entities (%)
  • Reach of editorial content for GDMO, DPC and Brand Dubai (% growth)
