Head Teacher Position at BlueSkies for Children

BlueSkies for Children is a national model for early care and education, and is the only child care center in Oakland accredited by NAEYC; open all year for children from infancy through age five. Our school is play-based and respects each child as a capable and competent learner. Teachers, parents and children each hold a special role within our learning community, cultivating an environment where all feel valued and connected.

We hope to find two committed and excited teachers (Infant and Preschool) who are looking to lead an environment where they:

• Enjoy designing and facilitating age appropriate curriculum and providing hands-on instruction that parallels program-wide procedures and routines;
• Develop and implement a variety of differentiated, situation and child-specific developmental goals based upon group and individual energy levels, personalities and learning needs;
• Demonstrate effective classroom management skills by proactively supervising and engaging children into productive outlets of play;
• Exhibit nuanced understanding of teacher-child relationship building by modeling nurturing care, responsive language and consistency;
• Build strong connections between school and home environments through open and collaborative communication with children families;
• Exercise adaptability, supporting neighboring classrooms and teachers in times of unexpected need;
• Embrace challenge as a participative leader within their classroom teaching team, taking responsibility for the success of each child, co-teachers and program.

Ideal candidates will have:

• B.A. in related fields preferred. 12 Early Childhood Education units required. Core ECE classes include: 3 units Infant Toddler Care and Development; 3 units Child Development class; 3 units Home, School and Community; 3 units Pre-School Curriculum.
• Multiple years of strong experience working with infants and preschoolers
• Knowledge and ability to support play-based learning
• Commitment to the BlueSkies philosophy and approach
• Ability to work in a flexible and creative way, adapt to changes
• Strong communication skills
• Proven track record of reliable leadership, supporting a collaborative teaching team
