Position Summary

As a Health Care Associate, you will work directly with partners and senior attorneys in advising clients on a wide variety of sophisticated health care regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters. You will contribute to client projects including payer/provider contracting, regulatory compliance assessments, affiliations and joint ventures, professional and entity licensing, government audits and investigations, self-disclosures, and general health law counseling.

This is a fully remote position. Though we prefer candidates who live in (or would be willing to move to) Oregon or Washington, we will consider qualified candidates based anywhere in the United States. This is a partner-track position with an expectation of advancement and growth. This role requires at least 2 years of substantive experience advising health care industry clients (either in-house or in private practice) as well as excellent research, writing, and analytical skills. 

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

• Draft, review, and negotiate health care–related contracts and other legal documents ( e.g ., payer/provider agreements, joint venture and affiliation agreements, service contracts, data sharing/exchange agreements, vendor contracts)
• Research and provide advice on a wide variety of health care regulatory topics ( e.g ., fraud & abuse laws (Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute), Medicare / Medicaid reimbursement, health information privacy and security (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2), insurance regulations, and licensing and scope of practice)
• Support due diligence related to the execution of health care transactions ( e.g ., acquisitions, consolidations, affiliations, joint ventures)
• Assist health care clients with self-disclosures and internal audit and compliance assessments, as well as responding to governmental inquiries, investigations and audits
• Develop legal memoranda, client advisories, management presentations, policies/procedures, and internal guidance documents
• Participate in client pitches, calls, and meetings; interact directly with clients’ operational, clinical, and business teams to translate legal risk into practical solutions
• Collaborate with teammates across multiple matters, manage deadlines, and maintain high quality and consistency in deliverables

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Admission to practice (or eligibility) in Oregon and/or Washington in good standing
• 2+ years of substantive experience advising health care clients on regulatory, transactional, compliance matters
• Knowledge of the U.S. health care industry
• Proven experience analyzing risks, making risk determinations, and drafting and negotiating contracts
• Strong analytical, research, writing, and communication skills
• Proficiency with legal research databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and document management/collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams, or similar)
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based remote environment (self-motivation, time management, collaboration)
• Comfortable juggling multiple projects and shifting priorities
• Excellent judgment and high degree of professionalism, attention to detail, and client service orientation

Preferred / Desirable Skills (Not Required)

• Experience with health care mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, and joint ventures
• Experience handling regulatory investigations, audits, or administrative enforcement actions (not malpractice defense)
• Experience in litigation or regulatory enforcement (administrative, government)
• Experience with health care technology, digital health, or health data/privacy issues
• Exposure to legislative or policy work in health care
