Health Care Support Worker

Hours per week: We are seeking to recruit either two part-time employees working 20 hours per week each, or one full-time employee working 37.5 hours per week. Working days will be agreed upon appointment.

Our core opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:30pm. In addition, we provide Extended Access patient appointments on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, as well as approximately 15 Saturdays per year. These appointments may be delivered either face-to-face or remotely.

The successful candidate(s) will be required to work a range of shifts across these hours on a pre-agreed rota basis.

The Surgery: We are a large practice with over 14,700 patients, 6 GP Partners, a mix of salaried GP’s, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, HCA’s, physiotherapist, Physician Associates, Paramedics and social prescribers. Our main site at Holt is a modern, airy, purpose-built Surgery. We also have one branch site in the nearby village of Melton Constable. Although busy, we are a relaxed, welcoming, and harmonious Practice.

Job Summary: To support the practice team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare Support Worker will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education

Job Description: The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare support worker. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Undertake NHS health checks for eligible patients

b. Support the practice nurses with health promotion programmes

c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

d. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

e. When trained undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

f. Support the practice nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics

g. Carry out BMI checks as directed

h. Act as a chaperone as required

i. When trained, undertake venepuncture

j. When trained, administer flu vaccinations

l. Carry out ECGs as requested

m. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

n. Provide support to the Doctor during minor operations as required

o. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

p. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

q. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

r. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: From £13.47 per hour
