Health Equity Subject Matter Expert

Job Overview
The Health Equity Subject Matter Expert will provide specialized public health expertise to ensure Customer Service Center operations, technical assistance, content, training materials, user engagement strategies, and dissemination activities are inclusive, culturally relevant, accessible, and aligned with health equity principles. This role will support the integration of health equity across program operations, including content development, technical assistance delivery, partner engagement, quality improvement, and outreach to organizations serving populations disproportionately affected by type 2 diabetes.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Review program materials, technical assistance responses, knowledge articles, training resources, webinar content, dissemination materials, and user-facing communications to ensure messaging is inclusive, avoids bias, and is relevant to underserved geographic regions and priority populations.
  • Support the development and review of materials using health equity principles, including culturally appropriate language, accessible formatting, and audience-specific considerations.
  • Advise the project team on how organizations delivering lifestyle change interventions can address economic, social, cultural, geographic, linguistic, and other barriers that may limit program participation.
  • Support technical assistance for organizations serving priority populations, including communities disproportionately affected by type 2 diabetes, tribal communities, American Indian and Alaska Native communities, U.S. territories, and other underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with Technical Assistance Coordinators, public health SMEs, content developers, and project leadership to ensure health equity is integrated into technical assistance workflows, case responses, training products, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Assist in developing dissemination plans that expand the reach of program resources to priority populations and partners working in underserved communities.
  • Review content for alignment with applicable health equity communication principles, plain language expectations, accessibility requirements, and cultural relevance.
  • Support the development and updating of health equity-focused knowledge articles, FAQs, webinars, quick tips, toolkits, and other educational materials.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, including reviewing customer feedback, technical assistance trends, usability findings, and satisfaction data to identify opportunities to improve reach, relevance, and accessibility for diverse users.
  • Work with the content team to identify materials that may need translation, adaptation, or audience-specific tailoring.
  • Support training for project staff and SMEs on health equity considerations, inclusive communication, cultural relevance, and equitable technical assistance delivery.
  • Document health equity recommendations, content review findings, and improvement opportunities for inclusion in project reports, work plans, quality control documentation, and dissemination plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Community Health, Health Communication, Health Equity, Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience applying health equity principles in public health programs, training, technical assistance, community engagement, or health communication.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and how economic, social, geographic, cultural, and systemic barriers affect access to preventive health programs.
  • Experience reviewing or developing public health materials for inclusivity, cultural relevance, plain language, accessibility, and audience appropriateness.
  • Strong writing, editing, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including public health SMEs, technical assistance staff, content developers, data/reporting staff, quality control staff, and project managers.
  • Experience supporting programs that serve diverse communities, underserved populations, or organizations working to reduce health disparities.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
