Health Informatics Specialist

Overview:

The Health Informatics Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate, efficient, and optimized use of the organization’s Electronic Medical Record (eClinicalWorks – eCW) system across Damian Family Care Centers. This position supports clinical and administrative staff through training, workflow optimization, system customization, and data integrity initiatives.

The Specialist works collaboratively with the Chief Information Officer, Director/ Assistant Director of Informatics, System / Data Analyst, Billing Department, and IT Department to ensure compliance with HRSA, UDS, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards applicable to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). The role ensures Damian maximizes the full functionality of eCW to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and regulatory reporting.

Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for onboarding and training newly hired staff on eCW functionality and workflows.
  • Develop and maintains desk aids, training manuals, and user documentation.
  • Provides ongoing refresher training and individualized support to staff requiring additional assistance.
  • Conducts retraining sessions related to system upgrades, enhancements, and workflow changes.
  • Provides hands-on technical assistance and end-user support.
  • Assists users in template development and routine system customization to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Extract reports from internal reporting systems, applying minimal formatting and data manipulation to ensure accuracy and usability for clinical and operational stakeholders Identifies opportunities to optimize system usage and improve documentation practices.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to ensure best practices in data entry.
  • Partners with the System / Data Analyst and Billing Department to identify and resolve data entry and integrity issues.
  • Works directly with front-end users to correct inconsistencies affecting UDS and other regulatory reports.
  • Supports compliance with HRSA, UDS, and other FQHC reporting requirements by promoting accurate and consistent documentation.
  • Works closely with the IT Department on system interface issues and eCW-related technical concerns.
  • Attend conferences, webinars, and vendor trainings to maintain current knowledge of eCW functionality and regulatory standards.
  • Stays current with compliance and regulatory standards governing EMRs.
  • Maintains consistent and flexible attendance in accordance with assigned schedule.
  • Reports on time and supports operational continuity.
  • Conforms to agency dress code and maintains professional appearance and hygiene standards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned, including duties outside normal responsibilities during emergencies.

Nonessential Job Duties

  • Participate in internal committees and workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with special projects related to informatics, compliance, or quality improvement.
  • Supports implementation of new modules or technology enhancements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director/ Assistant Director of Informatics.
Requirements:

Qualifications & Skills

  • Associate degree in Health Information Technology or related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of extensive experience working with an EMR required.
  • Strong understanding of EMR compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to train and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of EMR experience in a hospital, FQHC community health center strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HRSA and UDS reporting requirements preferred.
  • Clinical or medical background preferred.
  • Training background and experience providing IT user support strongly preferred.
  • Certification as an eClinicalWorks (eCW) Trainer preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

  • Visual acuity required for reviewing data and documentation on computer screens.
  • Occasional travel between clinic locations may be required.
  • May require attendance at off-site training, conferences, or webinars.
