Health Information Technician (HIM) Medical Records

Overview
The Health Information Technician plays a crucial role in managing and organizing health information data. This position involves ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient records while complying with legal and ethical standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and experience in medical office settings.

Duties

  • Maintain and manage patient health records, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems to input, retrieve, and analyze patient data.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate the flow of information between departments.
  • Assist in coding diagnoses and procedures for billing purposes.
  • Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure quality control and adherence to standards.
  • Provide support in training staff on proper documentation practices and use of health information systems.

Experience

  • Proficiency in medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare environment.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with medical records management systems is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical for maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates Degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
  • Certification as a registered health information technician by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred.
  • 1 Year of HIM experience preferred.
