ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION
- Renders basic first aid to students and maintains accompanying records.
- Contacts parent(s)/guardian(s) and medical personnel (ambulance and hospital) in emergencies and maintains accompanying records, as directed.
- Assists with vision, hearing, & dental screening and records screening information as directed.
- Reviews health information form and consults with a school nurse about health concerns.
- Tracks and reports blood borne pathogen incidents, as directed.
- Assists with the administration of medication to students according to doctors’ orders, health office policies and procedures.
- Updates and maintains health records and immunization records.
- Supplies first aid supplies to all classrooms and staff.
- Tracks dress code violations, including calls home for appropriate clothing.
- Help maintain order, safety, and conduct of students in hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, restrooms, etc. Help prevent situations that may cause injury or endanger any students’ welfare or safety.
- Work with the Dean’s Office to help communicate Dress Code Violations to parents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR/AED, and Universal Precautions. (training will be provided)
- Ability to attend and successfully complete annual medication assistance training and tests and complete initial and ongoing FASA awareness training/staff development.
- Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain accurate health records or reports.
- Ability to interpret health & safety standards.
- Ability to identify and prioritize health related incidents.
- Ability to learn, explain, and apply procedures.
- Ability to learn and apply laws, rules, and regulations relating to health activities.
- Ability to maintain security of all confidential information.
- Ability to learn to use computers and software applications related to the health office.
- Ability to determine when to act independently and when to refer medical situations to nurse/administrator.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, students, parents/guardians, and other medical personnel.
- Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
COMPENSATION, HOURS, BENEFITS
FULL-TIME- Typical work days will be 7 to 7.5 hours (depending on scheduling) with a half-hour unpaid lunch period.
You will be expected to work each day students are present (180 days) as well as attend required trainings and meetings that may be held prior to the school year and/or on DATA days which students only attend for half the day (approx. 8 additional days).
PART-TIME- Typical workdays will be 3 to 5.5 hours (depending on scheduling) with a half-hour unpaid lunch period if working over 5 hours in a day. You would be scheduled for approximately 14-28 hours or 2-5 days per week, as well as attend required trainings and meetings that may be held prior to the school year and/or on DATA days which students only attend for half the day (approx. 6 additional days). You may be asked to cover additional days/hours as needed.
Pay begins at $17.50/hr depending on experience. Health insurance benefits are available if working over 30hrs/week and NV PERS if you are working over 20hrs/week.
