Join the Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC), a research center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (HCS), dedicated to enhancing Veteran health outcomes through high-quality epidemiologic research. The Seattle ERIC is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP), an award-winning and internationally recognized program with a national research network.
The Seattle ERIC ishiring a full-time Research Coordinator (GS-09) to support CSP #505: Millennium Cohort Study (CSP #505). CSP #505 is a VA-Department of War (DOW) collaborative longitudinal study that launched in 2001. Health, lifestyle, and military information from study participants are collected and these data are linked with DOW and VA health and benefits records to better understand the long-term health effects of military service.
Under the direction of the CSP #505 Program Manager, the Research Coordinator will coordinate multiple CSP #505 projects including research for the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022, studies with VA investigators across the country, and development of other tools and resources for data sharing. This position is based at the VA Puget Sound HCS in Seattle, WA and is not eligible for remote work.
Key Duties:
· Support the development and execution of CSP #505 activities, including but not limited to PACT Act research
· Coordinate daily operations and regulatory documentation for PACT Act research
· Improve and maintain manuals, standard operating procedures, tracking databases, and data request forms
· Collaborate with CSP study teams, data managers, and technical experts to coordinate the transfer, maintenance, and provision of CSP #505 data resources
· Maintain effective quality control standards and data documentation to ensure CSP #505 data resources are curated and shared appropriately
· Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and access agreements
· Serve as a primary contact for VA researchers accessing CSP #505 resources for PACT Act research
· Collaborate with stakeholders including the CSP #505 Executive Committee (EC), DOW collaborators, Center leadership, and national CSP and ORD staff
· Coordinate registration and travel for local and/or national events including CSP #505 EC meetings
· Assist DOW collaborators with development and improvement of data collection instruments
· Create summary reports, presentations, and dissemination materials
· Assist with related activities as needed at the Center and Program levels
· May: Travel to national meetings as required
· May: Facilitate projects by contributing to protocol construction, literature reviews, and manuscript drafting
Qualifications:
Required:
BA/BS in a scientific- or health-related field and 3+ years of Human Subjects research required OR Master’s or higher degree in a scientific- or health-related field and 1-2 years of Human Subjects research required
o Note any education outside the United States needs to be evaluated through a foreign education evaluation agency service
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, maintain a high level of attention to detail, and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities through strong organizational and time-management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferred:
Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory processes
Knowledge about data management and statistical software (e.g., SAS, SQL, RStudio, Python)
Previous Research Assistant or Project Coordinator role in an academic or government setting
Experience in or knowledge of data sharing principles and practices
Understanding of epidemiologic research design and methodology
Experience providing customer service, particularly through telephone and email communication and virtual meetings
