Healthcare Application Developer (AWS / Clinical AI)
Industry: Healthcare / Home Health / Hospice / Clinical Documentation
About the Project
We are building a next-generation healthcare application that aimed at reducing the caregiver documentation burden by automating much of the clinical documentation for home health and related care settings. The platform ingests audio recordings, images, PDFs, and Word documents, extracts structured patient and clinical data, updates a secure clinical database, and automatically generates the initial OASIS forms and other patient documentation—with clinician review and compliance at the core.
This is a production healthcare system, not a prototype. Accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance are critical.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Designing and building AWS-based backend services to ingest and process:
- Audio files (clinical visit recordings)
- Images (scanned documents, photos)
- PDFs and Word documents
- Implementing speech-to-text, OCR, and document parsing pipelines
- Extracting structured clinical data (vitals, meds, assessments, interventions, etc.)
- Updating a secure patient clinical database
- Generating OASIS (E1/E2) forms and other patient documentation
- Integrating AI/ML and LLM-based extraction with deterministic validation
- Building human-in-the-loop workflows for clinical review and approval
- Ensuring HIPAA-compliant architecture, security, and auditability
- Collaborating with clinical and product stakeholders to refine workflows
Required Skills & Experience
AWS & Backend
- Strong experience with AWS (production systems)
- Lambda, Step Functions, S3, SQS/SNS
- RDS (PostgreSQL) and/or DynamoDB
- IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
- API design (REST, JSON, authentication)
AI / Data Extraction
- Speech-to-text pipelines (medical or clinical preferred)
- OCR and document parsing (images, PDFs, Word docs)
- Structured data extraction (JSON-based outputs)
- Experience integrating LLMs or NLP pipelines in production systems
Healthcare & Compliance
- Experience with healthcare applications (EHR, EMR, clinical documentation, billing, etc.)
- Understanding of HIPAA requirements and secure data handling
- Familiarity with OASIS forms or clinical assessment workflows is a major plus

- Proficiency in both Python or Java, with experience developing and maintaining production software in one of these languages.
- Strong knowledge of data engineering, model deployment, and MLOps.
- Strong data modeling skills
- Validation and error-handling for real-world clinical data
- Experience building scalable, auditable systems
Strongly Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with:
- Amazon Transcribe Medical
