Healthcare Application Interface Analyst

Location: Coconut Creek, FL (Hybrid – Onsite Monday–Thursday, Remote Fridays)
Reports To: HealthyMD CIO
Employment Type: 3–12 Month Contract

Summary

HealthyMD seeks an experienced, hands-on Healthcare Application Interface Analyst to lead the design, development, and optimization of secure, scalable healthcare data interfaces. This role focuses on API integrations, interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), and automation for operational efficiency. Expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), API management, and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST) is essential. The Analyst will ensure robust security, performance, and audit readiness across all data exchange workflows.

The ideal candidate will have a healthcare background, hands-on experience with EHR systems, and a strong understanding of clinical, pharmacy, insurance, and lab workflows. This individual will perform analysis, build, testing, and implementation, and collaborate with internal teams and vendors for all inbound and outbound interface needs. HealthyMD welcomes AI-driven automation skills for data and interface workflows as we deem this critical to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Design, Development & Implementation

  • Design, build, and implement interfaces using HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, RESTful APIs, and SFTP for secure data exchange.
  • Configure and maintain integration engines (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody) for message routing, transformation, and validation.
  • Develop and consume FHIR resources via API endpoints, leveraging SMART on FHIR and cloud-based API gateways.
  • Perform analysis of clinical workflows to ensure accurate mapping of data across EHR, pharmacy, insurance, prior authorization, labs, and all other HMD applications.
  • Create and execute test plans for interface builds and document results for audit and compliance.
  • Implement, manage, and monitor HMD interfaces for performance and reliability.

Security & Performance Optimization

  • Implement SSL/TLS encryption, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC for secure API communication.
  • Optimize interface performance for high-volume transactions and ensure high availability.
  • Develop disaster recovery and failover strategies for critical interfaces.

Automation & Operational Efficiency

  • Apply AI and automation tools to streamline interface workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve data quality.
  • Implement real-time monitoring, alerting, and error resolution for data pipelines.
  • Automate notifications and ticketing integration with platforms like Halo, Azure ADO, Jira, or ServiceNow.

Standards & Compliance

  • Interpret API, HL7 implementation guides, and interoperability standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, TEFCA, and 21st Century Cures Act requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for all interface builds, workflows, and processes.

Collaboration & Vendor Management

  • Work closely with internal teams (clinical, pharmacy, insurance, sales, HR, etc.) and external vendors to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Serve as technical liaison for vendor integrations and ensure alignment with HealthyMD’s interoperability strategy.
  • Participate in design reviews, change management, and security audits.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with advancements in API, HL7, FHIR, and interoperability best practices.
  • Explore emerging technologies for AI-driven automation and integration optimization.
  • Contribute to organizational initiatives for data quality and interoperability enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Healthcare background with experience in EHR systems, pharmacy workflows, insurance, and prior authorization processes.
  • Hands-on experience with APIs, HL7, FHIR, SFTP, and integration engines (Mirth, Rhapsody).
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming (Python, SQL, JavaScript).
  • Strong knowledge of interoperability standards and clinical terminologies (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTPS) and authentication (OAuth 2.0, OIDC).
  • Experience with AI tools for automation and workflow optimization.
  • Excellent communication and vendor management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, TEFCA, and 21st Century Cures Act requirements.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems (Halo, Jira) and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with EHRs (e.g., eClinicals, Charm, Sapphire, Epic, Cerner).
  • Experience with API Gateway tools (Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway).
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) for interface deployments.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Splunk, ELK, Prometheus) for monitoring.
  • Exposure to Zero Trust security principles.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Interface Engine Certifications (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody)
  • HIPAA and HITRUST certification or documented training.
  • Project Management or Agile Certifications
