Healthcare Content Writer

Position Summary: Essen Healthcare is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Healthcare Content Writer to develop engaging, accurate, and patient-focused content across digital and print platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare terminology, health literacy standards, and a passion for making complex medical information accessible and relatable to diverse patient populations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write, edit, and proofread content for a range of materials including:
• Patient education materials
• Website and blog posts
• Social media campaigns
• Internal communications
• Press releases and newsletters
• Collaborate with clinical, marketing, and population health teams to translate medical information into clear, engaging language.
• Ensure all content aligns with Essen’s tone, brand guidelines, and regulatory standards (HIPAA, CMS, DOH).
• Support strategic content initiatives related to population health, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
• Conduct interviews with providers, patients, and staff to develop original stories and features.
• Optimize content for SEO and user experience across platforms.
• Maintain and update content calendars to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Public Health, or a related field.
• 3+ years of healthcare writing experience, preferably in a clinical or population health setting.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to accuracy and health literacy.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, EMR systems, and patient-centered language.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and content management systems (CMS).
• Experience with SEO, social media marketing, and analytics tools a plus.

Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
• Experience working with underserved or diverse patient populations.
• Knowledge of healthcare policy, value-based care, or public health programs.
