Healthy Start Program Coordinator

Purpose:
The Healthy Start Program Coordinator oversees the daily operations of Group-Based Education and Consortium.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements the Healthy Start outreach plan to increase awareness, engagement, and enrollment.
  • Leads and participates in collaborative efforts with community partners, early childhood systems, and state or local stakeholders.
  • Represents Healthy Start at community events, health fairs, and collaborative meetings.
  • Coordinates, implements, and facilitates Group-Based Education sessions in accordance with the Healthy Start Education Plan.
  • Recruits speakers for Group-Based Education sessions, as needed.
  • Ensures high-quality, family-centered, responsive service delivery aligned with Healthy Start standards.
  • Completes Group-Based Education data requirements, including providing outcome summaries to be used in program promotion, reporting, and funding applications.
  • Participates in the Healthy Start Consortium’s Community of Practices and other technical assistance opportunities with Healthy Start grantees.
  • Retains existing Consortium members and recruits new members from different stakeholders, including Healthy Start participants and community members at the state, local, and community levels.
  • Develops cross-sector partnerships to ensure participants have access to coordinated, comprehensive maternal, child, and family medical care; health and parenting education; and community-based resources that address community factors that influence the health within the project area.
  • Uses the Consortium work plan to drive the mission and work of the Consortium.
  • Organizes the annual Baby Bloom event with the support of EveryStep programs and the Consortium.
  • Ensures proper documentation of Consortium activities, including measurable indicators of success and membership breakdown.
  • Organizes and maintains the Consortium membership list.
  • Attends Healthy Start regional and national conferences and trainings.
  • Contributes to preparation of monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual program and performance reports.
  • Maintains and updates program tools, curricula, policies, procedures, and best practice manuals.
  • Assists with grant development, funding requests, and required documentation and reporting.
  • Manages scheduling, priorities, and professional development while completing additional duties as needed to meet program goals.
  • Ensures compliance with funding requirements, policies, contracts, and accreditation standards.
  • Facilitates team meetings and promotes a supportive, reflective, and respectful work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or fields related to working with children and families or less than a bachelor’s degree but with commensurate experience
  • Ability to accept and work with a variety of populations
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment
  • Experience with family services that embraces the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision
  • Knowledge of parent-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect
  • Experience supporting families with different lived experience
  • Experience in home visiting with a strong background in early childhood prevention services
  • Ability to effectively engage with clients and community partners about program services
  • Good working knowledge of community resources and accessing these resources preferred
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and practice
  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work with the management information system and complete data entry
  • Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire)
  • Must have valid Iowa driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is required
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background check

Working Conditions:
  • Physical requirements: Light work, sitting most of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a small amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical activities: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing , Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Talking, Fingering (picking, pinching, typing, etc.), Hearing, Grasping (applying pressure with fingers and palm), Repetitive motions, Feeling (perceiving size, shape, texture, temperature by touching), Visual acuity (field of vision for analyzing data, viewing computer, using measurement devices, operating machines, determining accuracy or neatness, and/or making general observations)
  • Environment: Exposure to varied temperatures, communicable diseases, dust, and stairs
  • Time: Ability to be flexible with a varying schedule and programmatic requirements
  • Travel: Required between locations
