Civil Construction Estimator – Join WA Underground Inc.

Hey, we're WA Underground Inc., a self-performing dirt contractor based in the Tacoma/Puget Sound area. We handle full civil and site development work for residential housing developments—earthwork, grading, excavation, utilities, roads, drainage, you name it. We're growing and need a solid Civil Construction Estimator to join the team.

This isn't a desk job staring at spreadsheets all day. You'll be right in the mix, putting together competitive bids for earthwork and site packages on housing plats and subdivisions across Western Washington. If you know how to read plans, build accurate takeoffs, put together detailed proposals with the right exclusions, and understand the real costs of moving dirt, operating equipment, and managing crews, we want to talk to you.

What you'll be doing:

• Reviewing project plans, specs, and geotech reports for new bid opportunities
• Doing quantity takeoffs for excavation, grading, utilities, and site prep
• Building detailed estimates that include labor, equipment, materials, and production rates
• Putting together professional proposals with clear scopes and exclusions
• Working directly with our project managers and superintendents to make sure bids are realistic and buildable
• Helping with bid reviews, subcontractor pricing, and occasional site visits

What we're looking for:

• Several years of estimating experience in civil construction, ideally heavy on earthwork/grading/site development
• Strong skills with takeoff software (we use Bluebeam and Heavy bid) and Excel
• Good working knowledge of local dirt work costs, equipment productivity, and Washington construction practices
• Ability to spot risks, missing info, and opportunities in the bid documents
• Detail-oriented but practical—someone who understands how things actually get built in the field
• Self-starter who can manage multiple bids and tight deadlines

Bonus points if you're familiar with production homebuilders in the area (D.R. Horton, Lennar, Hayden Homes, etc.) or have experience negotiating subcontracts.
