Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic

Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team. Durants Equipment Rentals is a fast-growing rental company with 5 locations in New York and Connecticut. Providing safe and reliable equipment with fast and professional service, we aim to be the only call a contractor needs to outfit their jobsite.

In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of heavy construction equipment. Your expertise will ensure that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, supporting our ongoing projects and operational excellence. This position of mechanic / technician performs preventive maintenance, performs diagnostics and makes repairs on equipment in the safest, most effective way possible to avoid downtime. Our fleet primarily includes Earth Moving Machines, Aerial Work Platforms, Wood Chippers and General Construction Tools and Equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on heavy construction machinery.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical issues using OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) schematics and automotive diagnostics tools.
  • Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed and parts used for each piece of equipment.
  • Assist with heavy equipment loading and unloading, as well as training customers on safe and proper use of equipment.
  • Assist during maintenance or troubleshooting tasks when necessary.
  • Follow safety protocols diligently while handling power tools and heavy lifting operations to prevent accidents or injuries.

Skills

  • Proven dealership experience with heavy construction or industrial equipment is highly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of OEM systems across various machinery brands such as Caterpillar or similar manufacturers.
  • Proficiency in automotive diagnostics related to diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC systems, and air brakes.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, alignment devices, and other maintenance equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of farm machinery, industrial equipment maintenance, and heavy equipment operation standards.
  • Excellent customer service skills when interacting with clients regarding equipment.

Pay: $19.00 - $26.00 per hour
