Overview
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing heavy haul trucks used in the waste industry. The qualified mechanic will need to have a clean driving record (MVR) and is expected to operate out of a service truck and large shop area, handling the maintenance and repair of a fleet of refuse trucks in Birmingham, AL.
This job requires self - supervision. Candidate must be willing and able to make self-conscious decisions and repairs.
Duties
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy equipment
- Perform routine maintenance on engines, transmissions, and other components
- Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems
- Utilize schematics to identify and resolve technical problems
- Operate power tools to disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment components
- Conduct diesel engine repairs and services
- Fabricate parts as needed for equipment repairs
- Test heavy equipment to ensure proper functionality after repairs
Requirements
- Proficiency in air brake systems, hydraulics, and power tools
- Experience with diesel engine repair and heavy equipment operation
- Knowledge of waste compactor repairs will be helpful.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics for troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform welding task.
- Skilled in diagnostic software (PTT -TECHTOOL, ALLISON DOC, CUMMINS INSITE, DIAGNOSTIC LINK 8, DAVIE 4 PACCAR)
