Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic

X Contracting LLC is a fast-growing underground utility contractor specializing in earthwork, trenching, water, sewer, and underground infrastructure projects. To keep our fleet strong, we’re looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic who can troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment directly on job sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform field diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of heavy equipment (excavators, backhoes, loaders, water trucks, vac trucks, etc.).
• Troubleshoot hydraulics, engines, electrical, and mechanical systems under field conditions.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime.
• Keep detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance.
• Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards while working independently.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience (field service preferred).
• Knowledge of Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, and similar equipment.
• Strong skills in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Must provide your own tools and have reliable transportation.
• CDL preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Solid work ethic, safety-first mindset, and strong communication skills.
