The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy machinery used in production and construction operations. This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The technician will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform both scheduled and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, cranes, forklifts, and related machinery.
Perform preventative maintenance and equipment servicing based on manufacturer recommendations and company schedules.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment records.
Utilize diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to complete repairs efficiently.
Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Collaborate with supervisors and operators to identify recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements.
Order and maintain parts and supplies inventory for maintenance operations.
Assist in training equipment operators on basic maintenance and safe operation practices.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in heavy equipment repair preferred.
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction or industrial equipment.
Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems required.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
Proficient in using diagnostic software and hand/power tools.
Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Certifications (Preferred):
ASE Certification in Heavy Equipment or Diesel Technology
OSHA 10/30 Certification
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred depending on equipment operated)
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Work may require standing, bending, climbing, and exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
Occasional overtime or on-call work may be required.
